Ladrillerías Mallorquinas - Fired Clay Products

  • 1948

The company’s origins date back to the mid-20th century. The first factory was built on the grounds of “Pou de Sa Teulera” in 1948.

Initially, an Arab kiln was used for brick production. However, in 1950, a Hoffman kiln with a 37-meter-high chimney was installed.

Improvements were made to the kiln chambers and drying rooms, but it wasn’t until 1973, when the company was acquired by new industrial partners, Juan Castor and Juan Guasp, that a comprehensive expansion and modernization process began.

  • 1983

This year saw the launch of the first tunnel kiln in the Balearic Islands, measuring 68 meters in length. In 1990, the brick production line was fully automated with a new tunnel dryer, new equipment, and the extension of the kiln to 82 meters (it would later reach 96 meters).

The company managed to have two operational production lines: one automated line, primarily dedicated to the production of bricks and hollow blocks, and another with a Hoffman kiln adapted for the production of handmade bricks.

During this period, the company expanded its operations into the mining sector, following new and continuous increases in production as well as in its product range.

  • 1994

In April, Ladrillerías installed the first cogeneration plant in the Balearic Islands, becoming a pioneer in this field. The new facility supplies heat and electricity to the entire industrial sector and results in significant energy savings.

  • 2000

The third industrial plant (15,000 m²), dedicated to the manufacture of bricks and thermal clay, and a second cogeneration plant are commissioned.

The three production lines enable the company to expand its product range to 170 different items in permanent stock.

  • 2005

The first LNG satellite plant in the Balearic Islands for liquefied natural gas is installed. Ladrillerías is the first consumer of this clean fuel in the Balearic Islands and organizes its supply via tanker trucks using existing maritime transport routes.

In addition to converting all facilities to natural gas, natural gas cogeneration units are installed, achieving cleaner production from an environmental perspective and greater efficiency in terms of product quality improvement, along with significant energy savings.

  • 2006

We have steadily expanded our product range, our markets, and our distributor network (to 200 distributors), while continuously investing in facility upgrades, productivity improvements, and product quality.

  • 2007

Total production from the three kilns exceeded 250,000 tons of ceramic products manufactured over a 12-month period.

  • 2008 to 2013

The severe recession that affected the construction sector both on the islands and on the mainland led to a decline in activity and forced a reorganization of production and the sector across all job categories. While hundreds of factories in the national sector disappeared, brickworks managed to adapt to the new market conditions with new production organization systems, without interrupting production (whether on a small or large scale) for a single day during the crisis or over the course of decades.

  • 2014 to 2024

The market recovery is driving a new, gradual reorganization of this industry to adapt to increased demand.

Over time, facilities, production processes, and machinery are continuously optimized to make production more efficient, thereby reducing costs and enhancing competitiveness.

At the same time, new markets are opening up on the Iberian Peninsula and in other countries for specialty products.

  • 2016

In December 2016, the industrial complex was connected to the Ca’s Tresorer–Manacor–Felanitx gas pipeline.

  • 2022 to 2023

Energy crisis: Rising energy costs skyrocketed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing production to a halt in many industries at both the national and local levels. At Ladrillerias Mallorquinas, alternative systems for solid fuels and other energy sources were implemented to ensure that production and daily service to the market remained uninterrupted.

  • 2024

The new solar power facilities are operating for the first time, synchronized with the two cogeneration plants and the grid, resulting in daily energy savings. Plans are in place to expand solar power capacity and optimize efficiency.

  • 1990 to 2024

Our guiding principle: “Customer service.” For more than three decades, continuously and to this day, our orders have been fulfilled every day without delay. This has been made possible by continuous production, which ensures more than enough stock to serve the entire island market. At the same time, we continue to work every day to optimize costs so that we can offer a more competitive, higher-quality product, both to the islands and to the mainland.
